Powder is not a “regular product that's just finer.”
Packing powder is different from packing granules or snacks in three ways: fine powder flows unevenly, powder rises as dust into the sealing zone, and the fill weight must be consistent even though powder density varies between batches. The right automatic powder packaging machine solves all three with a single principle: controlled volume filling—not free-flowing.
Products that fall into this class include flour, curry powder and spices, milk powder, drinking chocolate powder, flavor powders, cleaning powders, and light pharmaceutical powders. If your product is sticky, wet, or oily, it is classified as a liquid/paste — a different filling machine is required.
Working principle: the auger screw is its heart.
The vertical form-fill-seal (VFFS) machine for powder operates in the same cycle as other VFFS machines — the film roll is pulled, the bag is formed, filled, sealed, and cut. The difference is at the filling station:
- Hopper chute Suspending the powder with a slow agitator that prevents it from bridging.
- Auger screw Rotates at a constant speed; each rotation dispenses an almost identical volume of powder. For 50 g bags, the machine rotates the screw a preset number of turns—rather than weighing each bag.
- Sample weight detection (On higher-end models) randomly inspect the bag and adjust the screw rotation if the powder in the new batch is denser or looser.
- Small vacuum tube In the funnel, draw in dust so that fine powder doesn't stick to the seal jaws — dust in the sealing zone is the number one cause of bag powder leaks.
The accuracy of the volumetric auger is typically ±11% of the target weight for dry, free-flowing powder; a scraped-shaft or twin-screw system is used for difficult powders such as fine oiled powders.
For higher yields, the multi-lane stick pack machine operates on the same auger principle across 4–10 parallel lanes—just like the small sachet machines described in the class. Mini sachet bag packaging machine.
Optional parameter: fill out this form before contacting the supplier.
| Parameter | Question for myself | Normal range |
|---|---|---|
| Heavy content | 20 g bag or 1 kg? | 10-2000 g |
| Target speed | How many bags per minute of actual sales are needed? | 30-60 bags/min (single-pass auger) |
| Density of powder | Weight per liter? (pour 1 L into a container and weigh) | 0.3-0.9 kg/L |
| Flow properties | Does it become sticky after exposure to humid air? | dry / difficult |
| Movie | PET/PE, BOPP/PE, or aluminum barrier | Follow the target's life savings. |
| Cleanliness | Does the site need frequent wet cleaning? | If so, fill in SS304. |
Practical tip: Send 2–3 kg of your powder sample to the supplier for testing. A serious supplier will run speed and accuracy tests with your sample and record them—not just show a video of the machine running with demo flour.
Field experience: three recurring lessons
Lesson 1 — density varies between batches. The powder ground in the morning has a different density than that ground in the afternoon. A machine without periodic weight checks produces bags with incorrect weights after two hours. Cheap solution: weigh one bag every 30 minutes and adjust; full solution: a model with automatic leak detection.
Lesson 2 — site moisture eating away at the film. At non-air-conditioned sites in Malaysia, film absorbs moisture and the seal isn't strong in the afternoon. Store the film in a dry room, let it acclimate to the site temperature before use, and adjust the seal temperature to the actual film—not the factory setting.
Lesson 3 — An auger is not a versatile tool. Dust containing high sugar or oily spices clings to the screw and the heavy product begins to misdirect. Inform the supplier of the product composition from the outset; scraped screws or air-cleaning channels solve this problem at a moderate cost.

When your powder isn't ready for this machine
- Volume under 300 bags per day — Manual weighing machines with table-top sealing machines pay back faster.
- Wet powder or paste — not this class; look for the liquid and paste filling machine.
- No storage humidity control — finish the film and product storage room first; otherwise, the rate of damaged bags will eat up all the labor savings.
- Berat isi mesti ±0.1% (farmasi) — perlukan mesin timbang berskala (net weigher) yang lebih mahal, bukan auger volumetrik.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Kenapa beg serbuk saya bocor walaupun mesin baru?
