Types of Filling and Sealing Machines

Due to the various bag shapes used for packaging items, the models and structures of filling and sealing machines also differ greatly, which is especially evident in the packaging and sealing devices. Generally, there are two types: one is the bag-making filling and sealing machine, and the other is the bag-feeding filling and sealing machine.

Types of Bag Forming, Filling, and Sealing Machines

It is suitable for the production of pillow bags, three-side and four-side sealed bags, flat bags, and stand-up bags. According to different bag shapes, it can be divided into:

Lapel forming, bag-making, filling, and sealing machine
Used for the production of pillow bags, the diagram is a schematic workflow for a vertical, intermittent bag-making filling and sealing machine that can complete the manufacturing of plastic film bags, longitudinal sealing (circular or butt joint), material filling, sealing, and cutting.

After flat film roll 3 passes through multiple guide rollers, it enters collar container 4, where it is first sealed and formed by longitudinal sealing heater 5, overlapping or extending into a cylindrical shape. At this time, a portion of the material metered by the metering device falls into the bag from hopper 1 through feed pipe 2. The transverse sealing heater 6 passes under the lower part of the bag while pulling it downward, bypasses the previously filled bag, and cuts between the two bags to separate them. The finished bag 7 filled with material is then removed from the equipment. The action of each machine actuator can be automatically controlled by mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic controls.

Column and bag-filling machine, solid-column machine, and sealing machine.

This machine is primarily used for filling and packaging liquid beverages, and the packaging containers can be tower-shaped or cubic.

This machine is primarily used for filling and packaging liquid beverages, and the packaging containers can be tower-shaped or cubic. The figure shows the operating principle of the Tetra Pak cubic beverage soft-pack filling and sealing machine. After the packaging material on flat film roll 1 is sterilized by printer 2 (if there is printed text on the packaging material, it can be omitted) and hydrogen peroxide sterilizer tank 3, it is guided downward by guide roller 4 and formed into a cylinder by forming rings 5 and 7. The sterilized bag is folded down as the packaging is moved and sewn. The packaging material is pressed into the longitudinal seal by the longitudinal sealing heater 8 as it passes through the final forming ring 9. Liquid material (such as juice and fresh milk) is pumped into the cylindrical packaging bag by liquid feed pipe 6 by a pump, and hot sterile air enters the cylinder from outside the material surface pipe and reaches inside the cylindrical packaging bag. There is also a coil heater 10 on the liquid surface, which sterilizes the inner wall of the material and forms a layer of sterile air on the liquid surface.
Horizontal sealing and cutting are performed below the liquid surface. Different configurations of the horizontal sealing device produce different solid-column and tower packaging products. In the case of tower packaging, the upper and lower horizontal sealing cutters are 900. The chamber is stepped, and the up-and-down movements as well as the opening and closing are each performed to complete the horizontal sealing and cutting of the packaged items. In the case of column packaging, the upper and lower horizontal sealing cutters are 900. The chamber is stepped, and up-and-down and opening-and-closing movements are respectively performed to complete the horizontal sealing and cutting of the packaged item. During the conveyor chain operation, finishing processes such as the folding of the material bag's wings and corners are completed, and finally the finished product 15 is unloaded from the conveyor chain. During the conveyor chain operation, finishing processes such as folding the bag's gusset and forming the bag's fold angle are completed, and finally the finished product 15 is unloaded from the conveyor chain.
The flat films used for beverages such as juice and milk are typically made from composite film materials like waxed paper–aluminum foil–polyethylene. Before being wound into a roll, the outer surface of the waxed paper is printed with text instructions and pattern trademarks. The solid-column box is simply a flat composite film material, and the top of the box is fitted with an aluminum drinking spout; open the aluminum spout and insert a straw to sip the beverage.

Continuous Transfer Bag Filling and Sealing Machine

Just fill and seal, no bag manufacturing.
Before using the bag-filling and sealing machine, the various processed empty bags must be arranged in the empty bag box. During operation, one empty bag is taken from the empty bag layer of the box at a time, and the bag is stopped at each station by the conveyor chain clamp to complete each packaging operation.

Bag feeder filling and sealing machines can be divided into two types based on the conveyor chain's path: straight-line and rotary types. The container conveyor chain moves the empty bags in a straight line, while the latter moves in a rotating manner. However, the operating principle of both is essentially the same. The diagram shows a schematic process flow for the straight-line bag filling and sealing machine. The bag feeding device consists of a vacuum suction head and a bag-feeding conveyor chain. When the empty bag 2 moves from the empty bag box 1 to the blowing and opening station, the air pipe 3 blows air into the mouth of the empty bag to open it. When the open bag moves to the station under the solid material hoppers 4 and 5, the bag is filled with material, or the liquid feeder 6 injects liquid into it. The chain conveyor 9 is provided with clamping hands of a special structure? Each pair of clamping hands grips one bag. The bag filled with material continues moving and is sealed by heater 7, pressed and cold-formed, and finally the clamping hands release the bag, and the finished product falls and is discharged through the discharge delivery device.
The figure shows an empty bag for a three-side seal, and the finished bag is a four-side seal type. The bag-making material is single-layer film or composite film. Single-layer film is not used because it is difficult to pick up and supply the bags.

Conclusion

Types of packaging bags and vacuum packaging machines are essential in the food and pharmaceutical industries, ensuring product quality and extending shelf life. While various types of bags are available to suit different materials and aesthetics, vacuum packaging machines enhance preservation by removing air, preventing oxidation, and facilitating thermal sterilization. The structure and working principles of single-chamber and double-chamber vacuum packaging machines play a crucial role in streamlining the packaging process, making it more efficient, reliable, and suitable for a wide range of products. Understanding these packaging methods is essential for optimizing packaging operations and ensuring products are well-protected for storage and transportation.
